What’s Valentine’s all about?

Valentine’s day is on the way, but where and when did this day of love start? There are many ideas, but the most popular appears to come from as far back as 270AD. The story goes that the Roman Empire at that time believed single men made better soldiers and forbid marriage during wartime. Bishop Valentine however went against his wishes and performed secret wedding ceremonies. A crime for which he was executed on the 14th of February. While in jail, he wrote a love note to the jailor’s daughter, signing it, “From your Valentine.” Sound familiar?

Back to today

These days, Valentine’s day is better known for love hearts, cards and flowers. It is a day lovers young and old can claim for themselves to rekindle the flame of passion.
